AAC Accredited Module – Postponed: September 2024
Ace Centre Learning is pleased to re-introduce its AAC Module. This enhanced level learning module is now accredited through the University of Dundee at 30 credits (SCQF).
The AAC Module can be combined with an additional 30 credits from one of two further modules (The Access Unit or Assistive Technology for Complex Communication, Physical & Learning Needs) to gain the PGCert Specialist Assistive Technology, awarded by University of Dundee.
It is also possible to progress to the MSc in Educational Assistive Technology. The MSc EduAT is a 180 credit Master of Science degree, inclusive of 40 elective credits. The MSc EduAT team plan (subject to internal approval) to make the AAC module available as an elective within the MSc EduAT.
Course aims:
- To develop as a reflective and skilled practitioner in Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC)
- To work towards an evidence-informed approach to assessment and implementation of AAC.
- To explore the range of needs that may be supported with AAC and critically evaluate the resources, strategies and their implementation.
You will learn to:
- Identify a range of paper based and electronic AAC solutions
- Explore issues related to vocabulary selection and organisation within an AAC system
- Consider typical language development and implications for AAC design
- Identify alternative ways to represent and organise language
- Explore AAC Assessment tools
- Consider alternative ways to access AAC for people with additional physical and sensory impairments
- Consider the learning requirements for someone to use AAC
- Explore the implications for teaching use of AAC, including target setting and review
- Consider implications for literacy learning for students who use AAC
- Identify personal factors influencing successful use of AAC
